What is Cognitive Science?
In my perspective, Cognitive Science is a scientific studies of the human mind and it is a interdisciplinary field that combining the ideas and methods from psychology, computer science, linguistics, philosophies, and neuroscience. What I can simply say is this course is about how the knowledge is being used, process and acquired.
In my opinion, Cognitive Science is not really that theoretical. well, of course it will require memorization skills but when you learn about Cognitive Science, you will have a very deep understanding about the principles, how they use the knowledge behind it and based on those understanding and knowledge, try to apply it in real life situation. I am very sure, it will change a lot of perspectives about what you see before.
Cognitive Science also instills strong writing, research and analytical thinking skills that prepare undergraduate cognitive science graduates to pursue jobs in fields such as software development, marketing, medical research, health care management, game design and education.
What Cognitive Science students can do after graduation?
For graduates interested in furthering their education and research interests, master’s and doctoral programs in neuroscience, linguistics, psychology, education and other disciplines that draw on an understanding of cognitive functioning might be a good fit. Some graduates might also choose to pursue medical school, law school or business school.
For example, have you ever watched Chappie movie? If you don't, I suggest you to watch Chappie after you visit my blog :) . So, Chappie is a robot that work with human. well ofcourse, it is human who developed the robot but the robot is not a normal robot. Chappie is an intelligence robot that act like human and think like human. Bingo! yes, that is what we called as an Artificial Intelligence.
Where can I get this offer?
Well, I am proudly to say this programme only offer in University Malaysia Sarawak.
in Sarawak, Malaysia which is from Faculty of Cognitive Sciences and Human Development. The first university in Asia that offer Cognitive Science programme.
Any student from any kind of field can study this program either from art stream or science streams are eligible to enter this program. for students who are from science stream, you will have more advantage because this programme applies a little bit of Computer Science knowledge, Biology or neuroscience.
For students who are from art stream, don't be afraid, I am sure you also can learn. as long as you give enough effort to learn, it will be easy for you. From my experience, it is not way too hard as I am also from art stream before i pursue in Cognitive Science. as long as you give full attention in the class, and give enough effort in assignments, quiz, examination and so on. Do not worry! Lecturers from Faculty Of Cognitive Sciences and Human Development are very kind, dedicated and helpful. They will always help you no matter what as long as you also are willing to help yourself to success in learning.
